Enjoy Your Brand New Day!

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. —Lamentations 3:22-23

My fiancé is known in certain circles as Brand New Day Francis. That’s because he is always reminding people that God gave them a brand new day. “No one has ever seen this day before!”

Francis gives all credit for the words to Lamentations 2:22-23—that’s where he found the Brand New Day idea.

There is power in these words. God is the one who wakes us up every morning, who allows us to see another day. He gives us a new start each morning, a chance to begin anew no matter what happened yesterday or the day before. Some people go to sleep for the night, never to wake up again. Someday, that will be us. We will no longer have the opportunity to wake up to another day here on earth. So we are grateful for today and for the chance to begin fresh, all over again.

Every morning, Francis and I show our gratitude to God for waking us up by giving our first hour to him. This practice has given us an unshakable foundation in our relationship with each other and with God. We pour our coffee and then sit down with our Bibles. Then we ask for the Holy Spirit to guide us, and we each select Scripture passages. After a few minutes of individual prayer and meditation, we then begin to share with each other what jumped out for us. So often, the Scripture passage that Francis shares is one that fits perfectly with the one I’ve chosen. That is what happens when the Holy Spirit is at work. The message is always perfectly designed for us, where we are in that moment. The Word of God is truly living and active.

This morning, the message was clear: we are in the hands of a loving God whose timing is perfect. Even when there are delays we don’t understand, we just have to keep trusting God. And just for today, we have to keep thanking him for everything—especially the gift he gave us this morning.

Thank you God for this Brand New Day!
